Always Distracted? Yoga Can Help Tame Your 'Monkey Mind'!
Have you ever:
- Tried to focus on reading but couldn't resist checking your phone?
- Been in a meeting while your mind wandered to what's for dinner? Yoga philosophy calls this "Monkey Mind" - thoughts jumping around like a monkey, making focus incredibly difficult.
The good news is yoga can help! Dharana (concentration) from the Yoga Sutras teaches us: Focus isn't about forcing yourself, but learning where to place your attention.
3 Ways to Build Focus
- Set an intention: Every morning, ask yourself: "What's most important today?" Set a small goal to give your mind direction.
- Practice awareness: When you notice your mind wandering, don't get frustrated. Like watching clouds drift by, gently bring your attention back.
- Reduce distractions: Try turning off phone notifications for 10 minutes - give yourself a quiet space to focus.
