Simple Core Activation
Can you activate your core in Table Pose? Let's try it together!
- Start in Table Pose, toes tucked under. (Knees hip-width apart, knees directly under hips. Hands shoulder-width apart, arms straight pushing into floor, no bent elbows, shoulders down.)
- Place one yoga block on your lower back, another squeezed between inner thighs.
- Exhale, draw in your belly, keep your back flat, slowly lift knees off the floor.
- Inhale, lower knees slightly, keeping back flat, but knees don't touch down, and don't let the yoga block fall.
- Breathe slowly and repeat steps 3 and 4, keeping knees off the ground throughout.
- Even better: exhale again, draw in belly, keep back flat, and hold.

Tips:
- Knees don't touch the ground during practice!
- Don't let the yoga block fall during practice!
- Squeezing the block between inner thighs also engages thigh strength.
Note: We might unconsciously use our glutes (tilting pelvis up) to lift our knees. Focus your awareness on your belly, coordinate with breathing to activate core strength! The yoga block on your lower back helps you notice if you're using your glutes incorrectly, and reminds you to keep your back flat.
