Giving Back Through Yoga: The Journey from Charity Stretch Yoga to Partner Floor Yoga | Tapas Yoga HK
Author -
This year, I wanted to use yoga to help more people and animals, hoping to organize a charity event at least once a month. It started when I participated in a program organized by an institution at the beginning of the year. The social worker helped me a lot. When I finished my last session, I wanted to learn more about the program so I could recommend it to others in need. Unfortunately, the social worker told me that due to funding issues, the program had to stop. I was both fortunate and regretful to become the last beneficiary of this program. Gradually, I noticed that many rescue organizations face funding problems that prevent them from continuing their rescue work.
So I really wanted to find ways to give back to society. I've always believed that yoga is for everyone - anyone can participate, and yoga can help all kinds of people and animals. After completing the Teacher Training at Tapas, I nervously reached out to see if any like-minded students would help. And there were! So I could take another step forward with my plan. (Actually, I was too timid to ask the current teachers if they were interested in helping. If any teachers want to participate in this plan, please let me know.)

In June and July, we held Charity Stretch Yoga and Charity Partner Floor Yoga respectively, donating to PAWS Guardian Rescue. The volunteers told us that our small actions have already helped them a lot. Then one day in June, someone asked me what event we were planning for August - they said they hoped to participate. I realized that these small events do get noticed, people do look forward to them, and people find them meaningful. I know these events are one-time only and the help is limited. But by taking the first step together, perhaps in the future we'll have the ability to take more steps, gradually giving back to society and making it (and ourselves) happier.
Finally, charity activities are not limited to donating money - any form can be considered. If any social enterprises or charitable organizations would like to collaborate, please contact us! If you have any ideas, please share them with us too!
PS. Some teachers said they would fully support this plan, which is very touching!
